| Congress Approves 30 Day Short-Term UI Extension The U.S. Senate approved legislation on Tuesday, March 2nd (H.R. 4691) to extend retroactively Emergency Unemployment Compensation, 2008 (EUC08), the Federal Additional Compensation (FAC) program and the temporary provisions for the Federal-State Extended Benefits (EB) program. The 30-day extension allows these programs to continue until April 5, 2010. (03/08/10)

States Facing Escalating Unemployment Taxes Might Find Relief in Current Federal Law and 1980's Laws As of January 5, 2010, 26 states had borrowed more than $27 billion from the federal government in order to finance their unemployment benefits. This number is projected to soar over the next few years as the U.S. Department of Labor has projected some 40 states will borrow up to $90 billion by the end of 2012. (03/01/10)
