    IGO Collaborative Reemployment Workgroup Holds Conference Call
    NASWA and several other intergovernmental organizations (IGO), as part of a grant to provide technical assistance to states on the Recovery Act, are working with USDOL to address three core areas: (1) Reemployment; (2) Obligations & Expenditures; and (3) Training.  (11/10/09)

    Secretary Shinseki Announces Expansion of Counseling for Combat Veterans
    Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki announced that combat Veterans will receive readjustment counseling and other assistance in 28 additional communities across the country where the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) will establish Vet Centers in 2010.   (08/18/09)
    Legislation Introduced To Expand Job Training For Veterans
    Legislation has been introduced in the House by Representative Rosa L. DeLauro (D-CT) to expand college job training and apprenticeship opportunities for Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans. The legislation would expand the Post-9/11 G.I. Bill to include a subsidy for job training and apprenticeship programs for veterans who do not pursue college.  (08/10/09)

    NASWA Discusses Job Training With White House Officials
    The White House convened a meeting of representatives from state and local government organizations to seek input on workforce programs and job training reform. David Agnew, Deputy Director for the White House Intergovernmental Affairs, and Martha Coven, Director of the White House Office of Mobility and Opportunities, led the meeting.  (06/22/09)

    Adult Education For Basic Skills, Training Needs Increased Funding, House Panel Told
    On Tuesday, May 5, the House Subcommittee on Higher Education, Lifelong Learning, and Competitiveness held a hearing to examine best practices for improving adult education and family literacy. This is the fourth hearing the Subcommittee has held as it works toward reauthorizing the Workforce Investment Act.  (05/12/09)
    USDOL Releases TEGL 13-08
    TEGL 13-08 provides states and outlying areas with stimulus allotments under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 to supplement Program Year (PY) 2008 allotments for WIA Title I Adult, Dislocated Worker and Youth Activities Programs, and Employment Service (ES) activities, as required by the Wagner-Peyser Act, as amended, and to provide RES Allotments.  (03/06/09)
    DOL Guidance on Workforce Provisions in Stimulus (TEN 30-08)
    The U.S. Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration (ETA) is issuing the attached Employment and Training Notice, which provides an overview of ETA’s implementation strategy for Workforce Investment Act and Wagner-Peyser funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. It also includes a timeline for funding allocation and policy and planning guidance, which are forthcoming.   (03/05/09)
