    EUC Bill Signed Into Law

    UI & A&F Committees Discuss EUC, Recovery Act With White House Committee on Ways and Means Staffer
    At a joint meeting in San Diego, California this week, NASWA's Unemployment Insurance (UI) and Administration and Finance (A&F) Committees held a conference call with Nick Gwyn, Staff Director, Subcommittee on Income Security and Family Support, House Committee on Ways and Means, to discuss the Senate's version of the EUC bill (H.R. 3548) and extensions of the UI provisions in the Recovery Act set to expire at the end of 2009.   (11/10/09)
    Unemployment Rate Jumps To 10.2%; Job Losses Are Higher Than Expected
    The labor market remained weak in October as payroll employment fell by 190,000 and the unemployment rate continued to trend up at 10.2 percent, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.  (11/10/09)

    The House and the Senate have passed H.R. 3548 to extend Unemployment Benefits up to 20 weeks and extend the $8000 homebuyer tax credit.  (11/05/09)
    ETA Assistant Secretary Interviewed On C-Span
    ETA Assistant Secretary Jane Oates appeared on C-SPAN on October 25, 2009. The interview focused primarily on extending unemployment benefits, but she also discussed and responded to many questions from the panelists on the larger mission of ETA--retraining, employment services, and other issues.  (11/04/09)
